Adam Vitt: “We saved roughly 2 hours of painful data entry in the field."
Great post by Adam Vitt, part of the Manitoba Hydro team leading innovation & the adoption of emerging technologies: “I recently spent two full days performing asset maintenance inspections across Southern Manitoba with Ryan Canada. Instead of the traditional way of writing down site information and readings on paper, then trying to re-read your own scribble & re-enter the text back in the office, I was able to perform the inspections via the RealWear, Inc. HMT-1 & Manitoba Hydro International’s VisualSpection platform at the same pace as Ryan. The kicker - I didn’t have to re-enter the information when we got back to head office due to the speech-to-text functionality & centralized data integration. I was also able to collect “rich” data, not just text and asset readings, but also HD photos & videos that give an actual depiction of site conditions.
The HMT-1 unit held up fantastically on both days. I started each day at 8am ending at 4pm; I did not charge the unit once during the working day, only when we got back to the office. Inspections consisted of asset data readings, media collection, & remote mentor (or peer to peer communication) testing at each site. Battery life on Day 1 ended at 45%; battery life Day 2 ended at 39%.
Over the two days, we saved roughly 2 hours of painful data entry in the field. How valuable is your time?”
